23. Al-Mu'minun

1 The believers have succeeded

2 Those who are humble in their prayers

3 And those who turn away from idle talk

4 And those who give charity

5 And those who guard their private parts

6 Except from their spouses or those their right hands possess, for they are not blamed

7 But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors

8 And those who are faithful to their trusts and promises

9 And those who maintain their prayers

10 Those are the inheritors

11 Who will inherit Paradise. They will abide therein eternally

12 We created man from an extract of clay

13 Then We placed him as a drop of fluid in a secure place

14 Then We formed the drop into a clinging substance and We formed the clinging substance into a lump and We formed the lump into bones and We clothed the bones with flesh then We developed him into another creation so blessed is God the best of creators

15 Then indeed after that you will die

16 Then indeed on the Day of Resurrection you will be raised

17 And We have created above you seven layers, and We have never been unaware of creation.

18 And We have sent down water from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And We are surely able to take it away.

19 Then We produced for you gardens of date palms and grapevines in which there is abundant fruit for you, and from which you eat.

20 And a tree emerging from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food for those who eat.

21 And indeed, in livestock there is a lesson for you. We give you drink from what is in their bellies, and for you in them are many benefits, and from them you eat.

22 And upon them and on ships you are carried.

23 We sent Noah to his people and he said O my people worship God you have no god but Him will you not fear

24 The chiefs who disbelieved from his people said This is only a man like you who wants to gain superiority over you and if God had willed He would have sent down angels We have not heard of this among our forefathers

25 He is only a man possessed by madness so wait concerning him for a time

26 He said My Lord help me because they deny me

27 So We inspired him Build the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration Then when Our command comes and the oven overflows take on board pairs from every species and your family except those against whom the word has already been issued And do not address Me concerning those who have done wrong Indeed they will be drowned

28 When you and those with you have boarded the ship then say Praise be to God who has saved us from the wrongdoing people

29 And say My Lord let me land at a blessed landing place and You are the best of those who bring to land

30 Indeed in that are signs and We are ever testing

31 Then We created after them another generation.

32 And We sent among them a messenger from themselves, saying, Worship God; you have no deity other than Him. Will you not fear Him?

33 And the leaders of his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink.

34 And if you obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.

35 Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth?

36 How far, how far is that which you are promised.

37 Life is not but our worldly life - we die and we live, and we will not be resurrected.

38 He is not but a man who has invented a lie about God, and we will not believe him.

39 He said, My Lord, support me because they have denied me.

40 God said, In a little while, they will surely become regretful.

41 So the blast seized them in truth, and We made them as rubbish. So away with the wrongdoing people.

42 Then We produced after them other generations.

43 No nation can advance its term or delay it.

44 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another, and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe.

45 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority

46 To Pharaoh and his chiefs but they were arrogant and were a haughty people

47 They said shall we believe in two humans like ourselves while their people are our servants

48 So they denied them and became of those destroyed

49 And We gave Moses the Scripture that they might be guided

50 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and We sheltered them on high ground with security and flowing water.

51 O messengers, eat from the good foods and do righteous deeds. Indeed, I am Knowing of what you do.

52 And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me.

53 But they divided their religion among themselves into sects, each faction rejoicing in what it has.

54 So leave them in their confusion for a time.

55 Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children

56 We hasten for them good things? No, they do not perceive.

57 Indeed those who are fearful of their Lord out of reverence

58 And those who believe in the signs of their Lord

59 And those who do not associate partners with their Lord

60 And those who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will return to their Lord

61 It is those who hasten to good deeds and they outrace others to them

62 We do not burden any soul beyond its capacity. We have a record that speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged.

63 But their hearts are in ignorance of this. And they have deeds besides that which they are doing.

64 Until when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, suddenly they cry for help.

65 Do not cry out today. Indeed, you will not be helped by Us.

66 My verses were recited to you, but you used to turn back on your heels.

67 Arrogant towards it, talking idly by night.

68 Then have they not pondered over the word, or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers?

69 Or did they not recognize their Messenger, so they are denying him?

70 Or do they say, There is madness in him? Rather, he has brought them the truth, but most of them are averse to the truth.

71 And if the truth had followed their desires, surely the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been corrupted. But We have brought them their reminder, and they turn away from their reminder.

72 Or do you ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers.

73 And indeed, you invite them to a straight path.

74 And indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path.

75 And if We had mercy on them and removed what was upon them of hardship, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.

76 And We had gripped them with suffering, but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate.

77 Until when We have opened for them a door of severe punishment, suddenly they will be in despair.

78 He is the one who created for you hearing, sight, and hearts. Little do you appreciate.

79 And He is the one who spread you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.

80 And He is the one who gives life and causes death, and His is the alternation of night and day. Do you not understand?

81 But they say the like of what the earlier ones said.

82 They said, When we die and become dust and bones, will we really be resurrected?

83 We and our forefathers were promised this before. This is nothing but tales of the ancients.

84 Say, To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it, if you know?

85 They will say, To God. Say, Then will you not remember?

86 Say, Who is the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Great Throne?

87 They will say, God. Say, Then will you not fear Him?

88 Say, In whose hand is the dominion of all things, and He protects while none can protect against Him, if you know?

89 They will say, God. Say, Then how are you deluded?

90 We have brought them the truth, but they are certainly liars.

91 God has not taken any son, nor is there any god with Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it created, and some of them would have overpowered others. Glory be to God above what they describe.

92 Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so exalted is He above what they associate.

93 Say: My Lord, if You should show me what they are promised

94 My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people

95 And indeed, We are able to show you what We promise them

96 Repel evil with what is best. We are most knowing of what they describe

97 And say: My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils

98 And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me

99 Until when death comes to one of them, he says My Lord, send me back

100 That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind. No, it is only a word he is saying. And behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected

101 So when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another

102 And those whose scales are heavy, it is they who are the successful

103 But those whose scales are light, those are the ones who have lost themselves, in Hell abiding eternally

104 The Fire will scorch their faces, and they therein will have disfigured lips

105 Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them

106 They will say Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray

107 Our Lord, remove us from it, and if we were to return, we would indeed be wrongdoers

108 He will say Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me

109 Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful

110 But you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them

111 Indeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance. They are indeed the achievers

112 He will say How long did you remain on earth in number of years

113 They will say We remained a day or part of a day. Ask those who enumerate

114 He will say You stayed not but a little, if only you had known

115 Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned

116 Exalted is God, the True King. There is no god except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.

117 Whoever calls upon another god besides God, without any proof, will have to answer to his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.

118 And say, My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy.
