Warning against befriending enemies
1 O you who believe, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies, offering them affection while they have disbelieved in what came to you of the truth, expelling the Messenger and yourselves because you believe in Allah, your Lord. If you have come out for struggle in My cause and seeking My approval, you conceal affection for them, but I am most knowing of what you conceal and what you declare. And whoever does it among you has certainly strayed from the soundness of the way.
2 If they gain dominance over you, they would be enemies to you and extend against you their hands and their tongues with evil, and they wish you would disbelieve.
3 Never will your relatives or your children benefit you on the Day of Resurrection. He will judge between you. And Allah is Seeing of what you do.
Example of Abraham and his followers
4 You have a good example in Abraham and those with him when they said to their people We disown you and what you worship besides God We reject you and enmity and hatred has appeared between us and you forever until you believe in God alone except for Abraham saying to his father I will pray for forgiveness for you though I have no power to do anything for you against God Our Lord in You we trust and to You we turn and to You is the final return
5 Our Lord do not make us a trial for those who disbelieve and forgive us our Lord Indeed You are the Mighty the Wise
6 There was certainly for you in them an excellent example for whoever hopes for God and the Last Day And whoever turns away then indeed God is the Free of need the Praiseworthy
Possibility of future friendship with current enemies
7 Perhaps God will create affection between you and those you consider enemies. God is capable, and God is Forgiving, Merciful.
8 God does not forbid you from being kind and just to those who have not fought you because of religion and have not driven you from your homes. Indeed, God loves those who act justly.
9 God only forbids you from befriending those who have fought you because of religion, driven you from your homes, and aided in your expulsion. Whoever befriends them, those are the wrongdoers.
Treatment of women who emigrate for faith
10 O believers, when believing women come to you as emigrants, test them. God knows best about their faith. If you find them to be believing women, do not send them back to the disbelievers. These women are not lawful for them, nor are the disbelievers lawful for these women. But give the disbelievers what they have spent. And there is no blame upon you if you marry them when you have given them their due. And do not hold to marriage bonds with disbelieving women, but ask for what you have spent and let them ask for what they have spent. That is the judgment of God. He judges between you. And God is Knowing and Wise.
11 And if any of your wives have gone from you to the disbelievers, and you have an opportunity, then give those whose wives have gone the equivalent of what they had spent. And fear God, in whom you believe.
Pledge of believing women
12 O Prophet, when believing women come to you pledging to you that they will not associate anything with God, nor steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill their children, nor bring forth a slander they have invented between their arms and legs, nor disobey you in what is right, then accept their pledge and ask forgiveness for them from God. Indeed, God is Forgiving and Merciful.
Prohibition of allying with those who oppose faith
13 O you who believe do not ally yourselves with a people upon whom Allah has become angry They have lost hope in the Hereafter just as the disbelievers have lost hope in those buried in graves
