Signs of Allah's Power in Creation

1 Alif, Lam, Mim, Ra. These are the verses of the Book. And what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of the people do not believe.

2 It is Allah who raised the heavens without pillars that you can see, then He established Himself above the Throne and subjected the sun and the moon, each running for a specified term. He arranges the matter; He details the signs that you may be certain of the meeting with your Lord.

3 And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers; and from all of the fruits He made therein two mates. He causes the night to cover the day. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.

4 And within the land are neighboring plots and gardens of grapevines and crops and palm trees, growing several from a root or otherwise, watered with one water; but We make some of them exceed others in quality of fruit. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.

Disbelievers' Denial and Punishment

5 If you are astonished, then astonishing is their saying, When we are dust, will we indeed be in a new creation? Those are the ones who have disbelieved in their Lord, and those will have shackles upon their necks, and those are the companions of the Fire, they will abide therein eternally.

6 They ask you to hasten the bad before the good, while there have already occurred before them similar punishments. And indeed, your Lord is full of forgiveness for the people despite their wrongdoing, and indeed, your Lord is severe in penalty.

7 And those who disbelieved say, Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord? You are only a warner, and for every people is a guide.

Allah's Knowledge and Power

8 God knows what every female carries and what the wombs lose or exceed. And everything with Him is by measure.

9 Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Great, the Exalted.

10 It is the same whether any of you conceals his speech or declares it openly, whether he hides by night or goes forth by day.

11 For him are successive angels before and behind him who guard him by the command of God. Indeed, God does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when God intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any protector.

Natural Phenomena as Signs

12 He is the one who shows you the lightning causing fear and hope and He creates the heavy clouds

13 The thunder glorifies His praise and so do the angels in awe of Him and He sends thunderbolts striking with them whom He wills while they dispute about God and He is severe in might

True Worship and False Deities

14 To Him is the true prayer. Those they call upon besides Him do not answer them anything, except as one who stretches his hands toward water to reach his mouth, but it will not reach it. The prayer of the disbelievers is only in error.

15 To God prostrate all who are in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and their shadows in the mornings and evenings.

16 Say: Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth? Say: God. Say: Have you then taken besides Him protectors who do not possess any benefit or harm for themselves? Say: Is the blind equal to the seeing? Or is darkness equal to light? Or have they attributed to God partners who created like His creation so that the creation seemed alike to them? Say: God is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Supreme.

Parables of Truth and Falsehood

17 He sends down water from the sky, and valleys flow according to their capacity, and the torrent carries rising foam. And from that which they heat in the fire, desiring ornaments and utensils, is a foam like it. Thus God presents truth and falsehood. As for the foam, it vanishes, being cast off; but as for that which benefits the people, it remains on the earth. Thus does God present examples.

18 For those who have responded to their Lord is the best reward. But those who did not respond to Him, if they had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would offer it for ransom. Those will have the worst account, and their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.

Characteristics of Believers and Disbelievers

19 Is one who knows that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth like one who is blind? Only those of understanding will remember.

20 Those who fulfill the covenant of God and do not break the contract.

21 And those who join what God has ordered to be joined and fear their Lord and are afraid of the terrible reckoning.

22 And those who are patient, seeking the face of their Lord, and establish prayer and spend from what We have provided for them secretly and openly and repel evil with good. Those will have the final home.

23 Gardens of perpetual residence they will enter them with whoever were righteous among their fathers, their spouses and their descendants. And the angels will enter upon them from every gate.

24 Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured. And excellent is the final home.

Consequences of Breaking Covenants

25 Those who break the covenant of God after its confirmation and sever what God has ordered to be joined and spread corruption on earth, those are the losers.

26 God extends provision for whom He wills and restricts it. And they rejoice in the worldly life, while the worldly life is not, compared to the Hereafter, except a brief enjoyment.

Guidance and Contentment in Remembrance of Allah

27 Those who disbelieve say Why has no sign been sent down to him from his Lord? Say Indeed Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back

28 Those who believe and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah Unquestionably in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest

29 Those who believe and do righteous deeds will have a good state and a good return

Prophet's Mission and Divine Decree

30 Thus We have sent you to a community before which other communities have passed away, so that you may recite to them what We have revealed to you. Yet they deny the Most Merciful. Say: He is my Lord. There is no god but Him. In Him I put my trust, and to Him is my return.

31 And if there were a Quran by which mountains could be moved, or the earth could be split, or the dead could be made to speak, it would be this Quran. But to God belongs the command entirely. Do not those who believe know that if God had willed, He would have guided all humanity? And those who disbelieve will continue to be struck by disaster for what they have done, or it will settle near their homes, until God's promise comes. Indeed, God does not fail in His promise.

32 And messengers before you were certainly mocked, but I gave respite to those who disbelieved. Then I seized them, and how was My punishment?

Allah's Plan and Human Deeds

33 Is then He Who watches over every soul as to what it earns like any other? Yet they ascribe partners to Allah. Say Name them. Or do you inform Him of something He does not know on earth or is it just empty talk? Rather their scheming is made attractive to those who disbelieve and they are hindered from the path. And whoever Allah leaves astray there is no guide for him.

34 For them is punishment in the life of this world and surely the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe. And they will have no defender against Allah.

Description of Paradise

35 The example of Paradise which the righteous have been promised is that beneath it rivers flow. Its fruit is lasting and its shade. That is the outcome for those who are mindful and the outcome for the disbelievers is the Fire.

Reaction to the Quran and Prophet's Role

36 Those to whom We have given the Book rejoice at what has been revealed to you. But among the factions are those who deny part of it. Say, I am only commanded to worship God and not associate with Him. To Him I invite, and to Him is my return.

37 And thus We have revealed it as an Arabic judgment. And if you follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you would not have against God any ally or any protector.

Divine Laws for Messengers

38 We have sent messengers before you and given them wives and children. No messenger could bring a sign except by the permission of God. For every term there is a decree.

39 God erases what He wills and confirms what He wills, and with Him is the source of the Scripture.

Allah's Power over Victory and Judgment

40 Whether We show you some of what We have promised them or We cause you to die, upon you is only the conveyance, and upon Us is the reckoning.

41 Do they not see that We come to the land, reducing it from its borders? And Allah decides; there is no adjuster of His decision. And He is swift in account.

42 And those before them had plotted, but to Allah belongs the plan entirely. He knows what every soul earns, and the disbelievers will know for whom is the final home.

Witness of Allah and Denial by Disbelievers

43 The disbelievers say You are not a messenger. Say Sufficient is Allah as a witness between me and you and whoever has knowledge of the Book.
