The Divine Origin and Importance of the Quran

Ha Mim

By the clear Book

Indeed We have made it an Arabic Quran so that you may understand

And indeed it is in the Mother of the Book with Us exalted full of wisdom

Should We withdraw the reminder from you disregarding you because you are a transgressing people

And how many prophets did We send among the former peoples

But no prophet came to them except that they mocked him

So We destroyed those who were mightier than these in strength and the example of the former peoples has preceded

God's Power and Creation

If you asked them who created the heavens and the earth they would surely say The Mighty the Knowing created them

Who made the earth a resting place for you and made roads for you therein that you may find your way

And who sends down water from the sky in proper measure then We revive a dead land with it thus you will be brought forth

And who created all the pairs and made for you ships and animals on which you ride

That you may sit firmly on their backs then remember the favor of your Lord when you are firmly seated on them and say Glory to Him who has subjected this to us and we were not capable of it

And surely to our Lord we will return

Misconceptions about God and Angels

Yet they assign to Him a portion of His servants. Indeed, man is clearly ungrateful.

Or has He taken daughters from what He creates and chosen you for sons?

And when one of them is given news of what he attributes to the Most Merciful in example, his face becomes dark, and he is filled with grief.

Is one brought up in ornaments while being unclear in dispute?

And they made the angels, who are servants of the Most Merciful, females. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded, and they will be questioned.

And they say, If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshipped them. They have no knowledge of that. They are only guessing.

Or have We given them a book before it to which they are adhering?

Rather, they say, Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are guided in their footsteps.

And similarly, We did not send before you any warner into a city except that its affluent said, Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are following their footsteps.

Say, Even if I brought you better guidance than what you found your fathers following? They said, Indeed, we are disbelievers in that with which you were sent.

So We took retribution from them. Then see how was the end of the deniers.

Abraham's Rejection of Idolatry

And when Abraham said to his father and his people: I disassociate myself from what you worship

Except for He who created me, and indeed, He will guide me

And he made it a lasting word among his descendants that they might return

Worldly Wealth and Divine Guidance

But I allowed these people and their fathers to enjoy life until the truth came to them and a clear messenger.

And when the truth came to them, they said, This is magic, and we reject it.

And they said, Why was this Quran not sent down upon a great man from the two cities?

Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord? We have allocated among them their livelihood in the worldly life and have raised some of them above others in ranks so that some may employ others in service. But the mercy of your Lord is better than what they accumulate.

And if it were not that the people would become one community, We would have made for those who disbelieve in the Most Merciful for their houses ceilings of silver and stairways upon which to climb.

And for their houses doors and couches upon which to recline.

And adornments of gold. But all that is nothing but the enjoyment of worldly life. And the Hereafter with your Lord is for the righteous.

The Consequences of Turning Away from God

Whoever turns away from the remembrance of the Most Merciful, We assign for him a devil who becomes his companion.

And indeed, they hinder them from the path while they think they are guided.

Until when he comes to Us, he says, If only there was between me and you the distance of the east and west. How wretched a companion.

And never will it benefit you this Day, when you have wronged, that you are sharing in the punishment.

Can you make the deaf hear, or guide the blind and those in clear error?

And whether We take you away, We will surely take retribution upon them.

Or whether We show you that which We have promised them, We have full power over them.

So hold firmly to what has been revealed to you. Indeed, you are on a straight path.

And indeed, it is a reminder for you and your people, and you will be questioned.

And ask those We sent before you of Our messengers; did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Most Merciful?

Moses and Pharaoh

And We certainly sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds.

But when he brought them Our signs, they laughed at them.

And We showed them not a sign except it was greater than its sister, and We seized them with punishment that they might return.

And they said, O magician, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. Indeed, we will be guided.

But when We removed the punishment from them, they broke their word.

And Pharaoh called out among his people, saying, O my people, do I not have the kingdom of Egypt and these rivers flowing beneath me? Then do you not see?

Or am I not better than this one who is insignificant and can hardly express himself clearly?

Then why have not bracelets of gold been placed upon him or come with him angels accompanying him?

So he fooled his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were a defiantly disobedient people.

So when they angered Us, We took retribution from them and drowned them all.

And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples.

Jesus and Misconceptions

And when the son of Mary is presented as an example, your people immediately turn away from it

And they say, Are our gods better or is he? They only mention him to you for argument. Rather, they are a quarrelsome people

He was not but a servant We favored, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel

And if We willed, We could have made angels among you, succeeding one another on the earth

And indeed, Jesus is knowledge of the Hour, so do not doubt it and follow Me. This is a straight path

And let not Satan avert you. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy

And when Jesus came with clear proofs, he said, I have come to you with wisdom and to make clear to you some of that over which you differ, so fear God and obey me

Indeed, God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is a straight path

But the factions differed among themselves, so woe to those who wronged from the punishment of a painful day

The Fate of Believers and Disbelievers in the Hereafter

Are they waiting for anything but the Hour to come upon them suddenly while they do not perceive?

Close friends on that Day will be enemies to each other, except for the righteous.

O My servants, no fear will there be concerning you this Day, nor will you grieve.

Those who believed in Our verses and were submissive.

Enter Paradise, you and your spouses, delighted.

Circulated among them will be plates and cups of gold. And therein is whatever the souls desire and the eyes delight in, and you will abide therein eternally.

And that is Paradise which you are made to inherit for what you used to do.

For you therein is much fruit from which you will eat.

Indeed, the criminals will be in the punishment of Hell, abiding eternally.

It will not be lightened for them, and they will be in despair therein.

And We did not wrong them, but it was they who were the wrongdoers.

And they will call, O Malik, let your Lord put an end to us! He will say, Indeed, you will remain.

We had certainly brought you the truth, but most of you, to the truth, were averse.

Or have they devised a plan? But indeed, We are devising.

Or do they think that We hear not their secrets and their private conversations? Yes, and Our messengers are with them recording.

God's Supremacy and the Futility of Idol Worship

Say: If the Most Merciful had a son, I would be the first of worshippers.

Glory to the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe.

So leave them to engage in their discourse and play until they meet their Day which they are promised.

And it is He who is God in the heaven and God on the earth. And He is the Wise, the Knowing.

And blessed is He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between them. And with Him is knowledge of the Hour, and to Him you will be returned.

And those they invoke besides Him do not possess intercession; but only those who testify to the truth and they know.

And if you asked them who created them, they would surely say, God. So how are they deluded?

And his saying, O my Lord, indeed these are a people who do not believe.

So turn away from them and say, Peace. But they are going to know.
